Axillary Sweat Gland Reduction

Targeted Treatment.
Lasting Relief.
Confident Living.

If you’re living with axillary hyperhidrosis—persistent underarm sweating that interferes with daily life—surgical sweat gland reduction offers long-term relief. When topical treatments or neuromodulator injections are no longer effective or practical, this targeted procedure can help you regain comfort and confidence.

At Meadowlark Surgical Centre & Cosmetic Clinic, sweat gland reduction is performed by board-certified Plastic Surgeons in a private, fully accredited surgical facility.

A Lasting Solution for Excessive Underarm Sweating

  • You may be a candidate if you:

    • Experience excessive underarm sweating not responsive to medical treatments

    • Have tried and discontinued prescription antiperspirants or Botox® injections

    • Are in good general health and prefer a more permanent option

    • Are seeking improved quality of life through sweat reduction

Your consultation will help determine whether direct excision, suction curettage, or a combination approach is most appropriate.

  • This outpatient procedure is performed under local anesthesia and may involve:

    • Direct excision – Removing sweat glands through a small underarm incision

    • Suction curettage – Using a fine cannula to remove sweat glands under the skin

    • Combination approach – When enhanced results are needed

Surgery typically takes 45–60 minutes per side, with minimal downtime.

  • Every surgical journey at Meadowlark begins with thoughtful preparation. Prior to your procedure, our team will guide you through a personalized plan that supports optimal healing and confidence:

    • Medical-Grade Skincare: Tailored regimens to strengthen skin barrier function, reduce inflammation, and support even healing. Often includes antioxidants, exfoliants, or targeted hydration.

    • Laser Pre-Treatment (if appropriate): Halo™ or BBL® laser therapy may be recommended for patients with scarring, textural irregularities, or skin tone concerns. This primes the skin for smoother post-op results.

    • Collaborative Surgical Planning: Your Plastic Surgeon works closely with our Cosmetic Nurses and Laser Specialists to align timing, skin health, and follow-up care—creating a seamless, team-driven approach.

  • Most patients experience:

    • Return to light daily activities within 1–3 days

    • Mild tenderness or swelling for 1–2 weeks

    • Noticeable sweat reduction within 1–2 weeks

    • Continued improvement in skin tone and dryness over 1–3 months

After surgery, your recovery is supported by our Cosmetic and Surgical Teams with:

    • Light bandages or dressings over the treatment area

    • Instructions for gentle hygiene and limited arm movement

    • Access to scar care support if incisions are made

    • Optional laser or skin treatments to even out tone and texture

  • While low-risk, this procedure may involve:

    • Mild numbness or firmness in the treated area

    • Temporary bruising or skin sensitivity

    • Minor scarring (depending on technique)

    • Rare recurrence of sweating over time

    • Uncommon risk of infection or delayed healing

All risks will be reviewed during your consultation, and aftercare plans will be customized for optimal recovery.

    • Board-certified Plastic Surgeons experienced in axillary surgery

    • Local anesthesia for comfort and convenience

    • Private, accredited facility with minimal wait times
