Otoplasty, also known as ear pinning or ear reshaping, adjusts the position, shape, or size of the ears to bring better facial balance. Whether you're seeking to correct prominent ears, reduce asymmetry, or revise a previous procedure, this refined surgery delivers long-lasting, natural-looking results.

At Meadowlark Surgical Centre & Cosmetic Clinic, Otoplasty is performed by board-certified Plastic Surgeons in our private, accredited surgical facility—with care tailored for teens and adults.

❗ Please note: We do not perform Otoplasty on children under 14 years of age.
Adolescents 14+ may undergo the procedure at Meadowlark under local anesthesia.
If your child prefers to be asleep for surgery, it must be done at Stollery Children’s Hospital with a referral to a pediatric plastic surgeon. Our facility is not equipped for pediatric general anesthesia.

    During your consultation, your surgeon will assess ear shape, cartilage, and symmetry to determine the most appropriate treatment plan.

  • Otoplasty is typically performed under:

    • Local anesthesia for teens and adults

    • General anesthesia (if required) at a hospital setting for younger patients

    The procedure involves:

    • A small incision hidden behind the ear

    • Repositioning or reshaping the cartilage for improved contour

    • Internal sutures to maintain the new position

    This outpatient procedure does not affect hearing and typically takes 1–2 hours.

  • Recovery is simple and fully supported by our Cosmetic Team. Aftercare includes:

    • Protective headwrap or bandaging for the first few days

    • Sleep and positioning instructions to protect results

    • Optional laser or skincare treatments for scar refinement

    • Follow-up visits to ensure healing and symmetryAt Meadowlark, we believe optimal results begin before surgery. Whether you're a teen or adult patient, our team helps prepare your skin and overall wellness to support smooth healing:

    • Pre-Procedure Skincare Guidance: For patients prone to breakouts, irritation, or sensitivity around the ears or scalp, we may recommend a gentle regimen to calm inflammation and strengthen the skin barrier before surgery.

    • Collaborative Planning with Your Surgical Team: Your Plastic Surgeon works closely with our Cosmetic Nurses to ensure bandaging, wound care, and long-term skin support are tailored to your anatomy and goals.

    • Clear Expectations for Teens and Families: For adolescents, we offer age-appropriate education and recovery guidance. Families receive a complete outline of what to expect—including return to school, sports, and social activities.

  • Most patients experience:

    • Return to non-strenuous activities in 3–5 days

    • Swelling or tightness for 2–3 weeks

    • Full results appearing as swelling resolves within 6–12 weeks

    • Hidden scars that fade gradually behind the ear fold

  • While otoplasty is low-risk, potential considerations include:

    • Temporary swelling, numbness, or tenderness

    • Asymmetry or overcorrection (rare)

    • Minor infection or delayed healing

    • Visible scar (typically hidden)
